McLean Select Basketball ("MSB") is a member club of the FCYBL and is the select basketball program offered by McLean Youth Basketball. MSB fields two teams in each of the four boys and girls age groups, for a total of 16 teams.

General Background

Retired – with career spanning from:  High School Educator / Coach, to University Counseling Center & Student Life Director, to Corporate Leadership / Organization Development Professional in the private sector, to an independent Business Transformation Consultant for large public sector agencies and medical enterprises.

Leroy received his B.A. in English and Psychology from the University of Kansas and his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.  Whether as a player or coach, he has been involved with sports (basketball, track, football, or soccer) his entire adolescent and adult life.  In high school, he was a Varsity player on the high school championship basketball, as well as track, teams and in college, ran Track for the University of Kansas.


Presently, Leroy has three grandchildren who participate in multiple McLean Youth Athletic programs to include:  Soccer, Baseball, and Basketball.


Coaching Background

Leroy’s experience encompasses several high school positions as an:  Assistant for Varsity Basketball, Football and Track Teams, as well as Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach.  At the middle school level, he has coached both girls’ basketball and boys’ football.  For developmental teams (spanning 6 thru 12 years of age), Leroy has coached (both boys and girls) in basketball as well as soccer. 

Specifically, with respect to McLean Youth Basketball, Leroy has coached at each of the Development, House, and Select Team levels.  For the Development League, he has been either Head or Assistant Coach for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Boys’ Teams; for the House League, he was Head Coach for a 4th Grade Girls’, as well as Boys’, Teams; and for the Select League, an Assistant Coach for 5th and Head Coach for 6th Grade Girls’ Teams.  In addition, during the summers, he has served as the Head or Assistant Coach for 5th and 6th Grade AAU Girls’ Teams. 


Coaching Philosophy 

Leroy encourages players to challenge their existing abilities, assume a shared responsibility for their own growth, and take risks in learning techniques that are critical toward acquiring new competencies.  His principal objective is to advance each player’s capability in executing fundamental offensive and defensive techniques that contribute to their individual achievement along with team accomplishment. Ultimately, he desires, not only to enhance player skill, but also increase their self-esteem and confidence that enables improved competitiveness at the next level.
